Solar System

  1. The Sun:

    • A star at the center of the solar system.
    • Provides light, heat, and energy for the planets and other celestial bodies.
  2. Planets:

    • Mercury: Closest to the Sun, small, rocky, and lacks an atmosphere.
    • Venus: Earth's "sister planet," known for its thick, toxic atmosphere and high surface temperatures.
    • Earth: The only planet known to support life, with a breathable atmosphere and liquid water.
    • Mars: Known as the Red Planet, with a thin atmosphere and evidence of past water.
    • Jupiter: The largest planet, a gas giant with a strong magnetic field and more than 79 moons.
    • Saturn: Famous for its extensive ring system, also a gas giant.
    • Uranus: An ice giant with a tilted axis, known for its pale blue color.
    • Neptune: The farthest planet, another ice giant, with strong winds and storms.
  3. Dwarf Planets:

    • Examples include Pluto, Eris, Haumea, Makemake, and Ceres.
    • Smaller than the main planets and found primarily in the outer regions of the solar system.
  4. Moons:

    • Natural satellites orbiting planets.
    • Examples: Earth's Moon, Jupiter’s moon Europa, Saturn's moon Titan.
  5. Asteroids:

    • Rocky bodies mostly found in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
  6. Comets:

    • Icy bodies that release gas and dust as they approach the Sun, forming a visible tail.
  7. Kuiper Belt:

    • A region beyond Neptune filled with icy bodies, including dwarf planets.
  8. Oort Cloud:

    • A hypothetical cloud of icy objects at the farthest reaches of the solar system, thought to be the source of long-period comets.
  9. Solar System’s Boundaries:

    • The solar system stretches beyond Neptune, extending into interstellar space.
  10. Location:

  • The solar system is located in the Milky Way galaxy, about 26,000 light-years from the galactic center.https://topteachers.net
